As most mechanics know, oil and grease are essentially the same thing, performing the same essential purpose: Keep metal-on-metal surfaces lubricated. However, the two solutions differ in how they achieve this…
- Grease is typically better than oil in vertical applications
- Grease can serve as a contamination barrier against water and dust
- Grease tends to stick around longer and won’t drip off
- Grease has a wide operating temperature range
That said, grease has many benefits in certain applications, but there are some limitations, namely: Grease can be difficult (and messy) to apply in hard to reach places.
CRC’S WHITE LITHIUM GREASE
This brings us to CRC Industries’ White Lithium Grease, which offers many of the benefits associated with grease, but in a liquid / aerosol form. In many respects, it’s a super lubricant that combines the convenience of a liquid oil, with the performance benefits of a high-viscosity grease. In other words: “It sprays like a liquid, but sticks like a grease”.
In most cases, grease is merely oil that has had a thickener (additive) added to it. In the case of White Lithium Grease, the lithium itself is the thicker. However, the lithium doesn’t only provide structure to the oil (thereby holding it in place in vertical applications), it also acts as a type of slow-release sponge that applies oil (in small amounts) as per the component’s lubrication needs.
White Lithium Grease is also water-resistant, highly tolerant to extreme pressures, and boasts a working temperature range that extends from –25Cº right up to 130Cº. On that note, White Lithium Grease is ideal for long-term lubrication, vertical applications, and where the prevention of water ingress is a requirement.
What’s more, it can also be used as a break-in lubrication for bearings, pistons and camshafts.
Other notable applications include:
- Door hinges
- Door rollers
- Pivot points
- Sunroof rails and sliding panels
- Bonnet latches
- Cables and chains
- Trailer couplings
- Garden tools, and…
- A break-in lubrication for bearings
